Build With God, Not Just For God: A Better Way to Lead

When “For God” Becomes a Spiritual Excuse
Let’s get real for a second.
You’re doing your best. You work hard, pray, love Jesus, and genuinely want your business to honor Him.
But if you’re honest... you make a lot of decisions without Him. You create the vision, plan the launch, write the emails, hire the team and then ask God to bless what you already decided.
The intention is good.
But that’s not partnership.
That’s a spiritual afterthought.
And it leads to burnout, second-guessing, and confusion... because you’re carrying a weight you weren’t meant to bear alone.
God Doesn’t Just Want Your Outcome. He Wants Your Obedience.
I’ve worked with dozens of founders who love God deeply…and still feel spiritually disconnected from their business. They think they’re building “for God.” But they’re still making plans in isolation.
The result?
Business feels heavy
Vision feels foggy
Peace feels out of reach
And here’s the truth that changed everything for my client Terrance:
“I’ve been treating God like an emergency contact… not my CEO.”
That moment of honesty led him to make one powerful decision:
Start building with God, not just for Him.
What It Means to Build With God
When you build with God, you don’t just ask for approval, you ask for direction. You don’t just work hard, you work in alignment. You don’t just pray at the end, you start with Him at the beginning. This isn’t mystical. It’s deeply practical. And it starts with a daily rhythm I call Focus with Faith.
A 3 Step Framework to Build With God
Here’s how faith-driven founders shift from spiritual separation to divine strategy in just 15 minutes a day.
Step 1 – Be Still Before You Build
Before the Slack messages. Before the team pings. Before the decision list opens.
Open the Word. This isn’t about deep theology. It’s about stillness. Even one verse grounds you in Kingdom truth before culture noise.
This activates the Discipline pillar of the DRIVEN framework... choosing alignment before action. You’re not just leading with grit. You’re leading with guidance.
Step 2 – Ask With Intentionality
Stop asking God to bless your ideas. Start asking Him for His.
Try questions like:
“Lord, what do You want me to focus on today”
“Who needs my leadership today”
“What part of this plan is not from You”
You’re not trying to be super-spiritual. You’re trying to be sensitive. This is how you start co-laboring with God, not competing with His wisdom.
Step 3 – Journal the Download
What you hear or sense? Write it down. It could be a word, a scripture, a name, or a prompt to pause. Journaling builds trust. It reminds you that you are not leading alone. It forms a written legacy of how God has moved through your obedience.
This is where the Vision pillar shows up, because now, your next step is grounded in direction, not desperation.

What Building With God Looks Like in Real Time
My client Terrance was launching a new program. His team was ready. Ads were scheduled. The tech was built. But the numbers didn’t feel right. His heart felt anxious.
So he paused.
He opened his journal. He asked, “Lord, is this the right offer for the right people at the right time?” The next morning, the answer came. He needed to pivot the offer’s positioning, even though everything was built. It cost him an extra three days. But it saved him months of wasted momentum.
That’s what building with God looks like. Slower on the front end. But 10 times more fruitful on the back.
Your Turn – Make the Shift Today
If you’ve been building for God… but you know it’s time to build with Him, here’s your next step.
Start tomorrow morning with this rhythm:
Open the Word before anything else
Ask one focused question
Write what you sense
Give God your first 15 minutes. You’ll gain more than peace... you’ll gain clarity, authority, and confidence.

The Vision – You Were Never Meant to Lead Alone
Imagine waking up next week with peace in your chest instead of pressure in your gut. You know what God said. You know what matters most. You know your next step and it feels light, not heavy.
That’s what happens when you stop asking God to catch up with your business plans…
…and start inviting Him to lead them.
Let’s build like that.
Let’s build with God.
